Great Western Air Ambulance
For this month’s guest speaker evening we were delighted to invite Great Western Air Ambulance. They are a charity organisation funded by local people and not the NHS, who can provide hospital level skills and equipment at the scene of an accident or medical incident often not available by a traditional ambulance. They gave a very informative talk where we learnt a lot, and at the end of the evening we presented a large donation towards the great work they do.

SARA - Severn Area Rescue Association
Thornbury Lions and their guests had an enjoyable evening with the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), who presented to the club their activities in the local area, explaining the many types of rescue craft they use and equipment. It was a very interesting evening and we all felt we had learnt something new.
SARA is an Inshore Lifeboat and Inland Search and Rescue organisation covering the River Severn, it's estuary and the surrounding area. Members are volunteers and all funds go towards equipment to save lives or cover running costs. They support the HM Coastguard, Police, Fire & Rescue and Ambulance Services 24/7, 365 days of the year. They were founded in 1973, and out of the many dozens of rescue organisations throughout the UK covering coastal and inland waterways, SARA are the second largest after the RNLI.
In appreciation of the hard work they do saving lives in the community, Thornbury Lions made a donation towards equipment and their running costs.
