Lest We Forget |
We are proud to again support 'Caring at Christmas', a charity run by Caring in Bristol. They work with people who are homeless to bring about lasting change in Bristol. They have run 'Caring at Christmas' for 34 years to ensure no one is left out in the cold at this time of year.

Thornbury Lions are regular supporters of JIGSAW in Thornbury, and we recently made a donation towards their latest project. JIGSAW is a local charity that works with children and young people in the surrounding area with additional needs or disabilities, and their families. They provide friendship, support, compassion and fun, along with innovative services that empower them to connect, fit in and thrive.

Thornbury Lions are regular supporters of Manorbrook Primary School in Thornbury. We recently made a donation towards the 2024 Residential Camp. This is a much needed donation towards the annual camp, which the children enjoy and is a great learning experience. We helped Thornbury RFC Broncos with much needed new kit for its young team. Thornbury RFC are a family oriented club provide rugby training, games and tournaments for junior boys and girls of most ages. It was great to meet Thornbury Town Football Club U12 Colts, where we made a donation towards their new kit. We wish them luck in their forthcoming matches. |

Thornbury Lions are regular supporters of Thornbury Area Youth Music, and our recent donation enables them to continue providing young people access to musical activities and tuition. Thornbury Area Youth Music meet Saturday mornings at Manorbrook School, Thornbury, and run a variety of activities for children aged between 4 and 18. This charity is run by parents and professional tutors for children who want to learn a musical instrument in a fun and supportive environment. Thornbury Lions are pleased to make a recent donation to Kids Cancer Charity. They are a national charity based in Swansea, set up in 1989, to support children with cancer and their families. As well as providing family support, they also provide compassionate care breaks for those affected by Cancer. They are currently supporting a family in our local area. |

Krunch South West, support local young people aged 9 to 25 years. This includes running a youth club at ‘the pod’ at Thornbury Skate Park, near the Sports Centre. KRUNCH celebrated their tenth anniversary this year and to mark the occasion they held a Summer Fest on Saturday 19th August at the Thornbury Skate Park. This celebration event was open to all of the community with loads of activities for all the family.

Thornbury Lions are regular sponsors of Thornbury Town Football Club. This year we made a donation towards a new pitch side banner and new kit. We wish them luck in this coming season.
Thornbury Lions are pleased to donated funds to Bridge family of Schools who bring together small schools in the local area such as Almondsbury, Olveston, Oldbury and Pilning. They organise events small schools will struggle to do alone such as Olympic sports days, public speaking events, Christmas Carols and activities encouraging leadership, creativity and sustainability. Our donation will help transport costs and badges / medals which can be awarded at these events.

This summer Thornbury Lions supported Thornbury In Bloom by sponsoring the decorating of the Town Pump in the Plain.
Thornbury Lions are pleased to help the 2nd Thornbury Scout Group Beavers, Cubs and Scouts celebrate their 50th Anniversary. We have made a large donation towards the costs of their special Anniversary summer camp being held at Symonds Yat, where they will experience adventure activities including canoeing, climbing, caving and high ropes. We hope they have a fun time, and it stays dry.

For many years Thornbury Lions have supported Thornbury In Bloom, who in recent years have had unprecedented success in both South West in Bloom and the National RHS Britain in Bloom Awards. We are pleased to continue this support this year, and have also agreed to sponsor decorating the ‘Pump’ located in the Plain this summer. Following a very enjoyable evening with the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), in appreciation of the hard work they do saving lives in the community, Thornbury Lions made a donation towards equipment and their running costs. SARA is an Inshore Lifeboat and Inland Search and Rescue organisation covering the River Severn, it's estuary and the surrounding area. Members are volunteers who support the HM Coastguard, Police, Fire & Rescue and Ambulance Services 24/7, 365 days of the year. They were founded in 1973, and out of the many dozens of rescue organisations throughout the UK covering coastal and inland waterways, SARA are the second largest after the RNLI.

We were pleased to meet Thornbury Town U13 Falcons football team and made a donation towards their new kit. We wish them luck this season.

Since 1981 this charity has offered peer support to women experiencing anxiety, depression, distress and/or isolation during pregnancy and beyond until their youngest child reaches school age. To continue our support, this month we made another donation to this caring charity.
PTSD Resolution is a community-based charity who provide vital counselling support for UK armed forces veterans to resolve the devasting impact of military trauma. Thornbury Lions have teamed up with PTSD Resolution to fund specialist mental health therapy to help a local veteran who served in the Falklands conflict.

When a powerful earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on the 5th February buildings collapsed, thousands of lives were lost, tens of thousands of people were displaced and communities changed forever. Lions Club International Foundation (the charity arm of Lions) were among the first to respond and awarded an initial $200,000 in aid. This enables Lions Clubs on the ground to provide immediate, short and long term relief to victims of one of the largest earthquakes to hit the region in more than 100 years.
With the generosity of our bookshop customers, Thornbury Lions have donated £3000 to LCIF to further help the victims of this natural disaster.

We awarded The Inspire Arts Trust a donation towards their bursary scheme. The trust runs BALPA (Bristol Academy of Live Performing Arts) who hold performing arts classes for children aged 3 to 18 in street dance, lyrical dance, musical theatre, singing and keyboards. The recent cost of living increases has seen the demand for attendance bursaries triple over the past twelve months, and the scheme allows children to attend whatever their financial situation.
Thornbury Lions made a donation to Prodigal Arts who provide opportunities for prisoners and ex-offenders to produce and sell artwork created in art mentoring sessions and their own time as part of their ongoing rehabilitation.

We made a donation to Asthma Relief. This charity, founded in 1997, supports those suffering from Asthma and other respiratory conditions. They have found demand for their services has significantly increased over the last 10 years and are experiencing a further dramatic increase because of the Coronavirus (COVID 19) crisis.
Over the past few weeks several sporting clubs have benefited from donations from Thornbury Lions. This includes Thornbury Colts under 18’s rugby club where a donation contributed towards their tour in March.
Thornbury Lions visited Crossways Junior school to present a cheque for the purchase of books and other equipment. This is in recognition of the hard work every pupil put into the Lions ROAR programme.
