Re-scheduled Screening Event
All one hundred men who registered for our 21st March screening will have their £5 registration fee returned and have been registered, free of charge, for a re-scheduled event on Saturday 9th May at the Slimbridge Room, The Chantry Community Centre, Thornbury. We do hope you will be able to make it and we have been assured there will be no hiccups this time around!
An Apology - 22 March 2026
To everyone who turned up for their screening appointments yesterday we sincerely apologise that you were not able to be tested. At the moment we do not know exactly why the phlebotomists did not turn up and will be speaking to the Graham Fulford Trust, through whom this was organised, to find out what went wrong and to ensure it does not happen again.
All those who registered will be contacted by email to be offered a refund of their registration fee.
We will also re-schedule the screening as soon as practicable and, again, all those who registered for the event yesterday will be directly notified by email of the new screening date.
We are so sorry this event did not go as planned, especially as last year's initial event went so smoothly. Thanks to everyone for being so understanding yesterday.

Why Prostate Cancer Screening?
Please watch the video to learn more about Prostate Cancer screening and why it's important.
The facts: Why test men?
- One man every hour dies in the UK from prostate cancer.
- There are 50,000 new cases in the UK every year.
- Unlike Breast cancer there is no national screening available for Prostate Cancer.
- Providing a PSA blood test to as many men between 40 and 80 as possible can result in early detection and treatment that is vastly likely to increase a man's chances of survival.
How much will it cost me ?
This year there is a small charge of £5 per registration to help with our costs and allow us to offer this service to 40% more men than last year.
You are also welcome to make a donation to our bucket collection on the day of your test. The tests cost close to £30 per person so any donation you make will help us enormously.
While Thornbury Lions are organising this screening event we are very grateful for the support of Thornbury & District League of Friends, Rotary Thornbury and Thornbury Round Table, all of whom are working in partnership with us and sharing the funding for this event.

PLEASE NOTE: You cannot just turn up on the day hoping for a test. Registration before the event is essential.
