November

This month we have supported

Thornbury Memory Café   - A volunteer run café which has been operating for over 13 years which provides a safe, secure, and healthy environment where people with memory problems can meet.

Manorbrook School - A primary School in Thornbury. The Lions donation will help toward the cost of the 2026 school camp to PGL in Liddington, near Swindon, for those pupils unable to cover the full cost of the trip.

5th Thornbury Brownies - A local brownies group for girls aged 7-10 years old. The Lions donation will help with the cost of travel for the group to attend a Christmas pantomime in Bristol.

Message in a Bottle
For many years Thornbury Lions have been working with age UK to distribute 'Message in a Bottle' in the community.
This initiative is a simple effective way for people to keep their basic personal and medical details where they can be found in an emergency. This helps emergency services identify an individual and become aware of allergies or special medication.
Paramedics, police, firefighters and social services support the Lions life-saving initiative and know to look in the fridge when they see the supplied Message in a Bottle stickers. This provides peace of mind that prompt and appropriate medical assistance can be provided, and next of kin/emergency contacts can be notified.

June

This month we are supporting a very worthwhile charity: the SOFA Project: They are a reuse, recycling and rehabilitation charity & social enterprise, serving Bristol since 1980. They take unwanted furniture, refurbish it with the help of local prisoners and sell on. They use the proceeds to relieve poverty.

But they do more than just recycling furniture. If you want to learn more or just want to grab a bargain from one of their 3 shops in Bristol click on their logo to visit their website.

Thornbury Lions have recently contributed to the Lions International initiative to provide stoves to Ukrainian families. These robust stoves can be used for cooking and heating, which is essential during their cold winter months especially as the local infrastructure has been destroyed in many areas. Thanks to our bookshop customers, we have funded the provision of 8 stoves for this life saving cause.
